A cracking day for blog followers yesterday as our Ascot Yankee yielded three winners.
Dakota Gold (5/2 early, 15/8 SP) set the ball rolling with an all-the-way success, whilst Di Fede (3/1 early, 7/4 SP) defended her title in the listed race as easily as we had anticipated. The payout was secured when Pendleton (6/1) came good in the last.
That all added up to a circa 15/1 return on total stakes at early prices.
And yet still. Our nap came in the big race and we expressed our agonising choice between three blog regulars in Raising Sand, Ripp Orf and Kynren. With Raising Sand looking too high in the weights it came down to a simple choice, and we blew it pure and simple. Mudlark Kynren coming good after a deluge of money on the day. That should have been on the ticket and it should have been a red letter Saturday.
15/1 is a pretty nice silver lining, but the pot of gold was in our fingertips !!
Maybe Longchamp can give us a Sunday blessing…
