Monday Yankee: The full Ponty…

Plenty of profit this weekend at Ascot and Longchamp, and we’ll look to add good old Pontefract to that auspicious list….

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Rudy Lewis, (1630 Pontefract), 1pt win, 4/1:

A lightly raced 3yo with some decent form on soft ground. Was really unlucky not to win at Ripon two runs ago off a mark of 71 and should be very competitive off this 3lb higher mark. Can be forgiven a failure on the dirt last time, and back on the turf for an in-form Hollie Doyle he should win.

Spygate, (1430 Pontefract), 5/2: Trainer Richard Fahey does well here and this colt has had plenty of experience for a horse who only made his handicap debut last time. That photo defeat on heavy ground at Hamilton augurs well here, whilst Tudhope up top and a draw in stall 1 merely add to the appeal.

Make Me, (1600 Pontefract), 15/2: was a frequent placer last season before coming good on soft in the Autumn off 69. Has struggled this season albeit mainly on faster ground, with his one effort on soft being a decent third. Has slipped back to a mark of 61, ran pretty well in a good race at Ayr last time, and has his ground.

Art Of Diplomacy, (1700 Pontefract), 2/1: won cosily on handicap debut off a mark of 65 at Hamilton on this soft surface. Ground it out that day, and this stiff track should suit. Only up 5lbs, but still closely weighted with George Mallory who was third then, but surely has massive scope to improve further.
