Thursday Yankee: Trust Higgs in new digs…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Higgs, (1420 Exeter), 1pt win, 2/1:

One of our leading jumps racing theories involves horses newly acquired by shrewdie Dr Richard Newland. Higgs fits that bill as he debuts for the good doctor after a useful season at the small stable of Sarah-Jayne Davis. Newland had inproved horses from more stellar backgrounds than that, and there has to be a good chance he’ll find a good few pounds on this already tasty rating.

Somethinboutangela, (1600 Exeter), 2/1: so the Newland theory went astray when this import from Ireland made her stable debut last week at Hexham. She was well backed to deliver to the script, but although 12l clear of the favourite, she was touched off by a neck after a long battle. Gets pulled out quickly before a 4lb rise takes effect and probably only has to repeat the form to win this.

Rochford, (1830 Kempton), 9/4: has had two solid runs in nurseries both on the all weather, at Chelmsford and at Newcastle. Has crept up a few pounds for those efforts but now gets apprentice wonder-boy Fallon on board claiming 3lbs so that he is in effect lower than for those races. Is well drawn this evening and should register a win.

Masham Star, (1900 Kempton), 25/1: to balance off three short priced favourites elsewhere in the yankee comes this old blog favourite at a monster price. It is a leap of faith, but in his favour he is on his lowest mark for 18 months (placed 11 times and won twice off higher marks in the interim), he seemingly is at his best on the all weather these days, and finally has had a wind operation. He is also potentially the pace angle in this race, and if he can get his fractions right with cleaner breathing, then he should be a significantly shorter price than this.
