Friday Yankee: Be Firm with 3pt nap…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Firmament, (1440 York), 3pts win, 11/2:

This handicap regular may not be the pick of his stable in the market with Waarif heading the list, but he is the pick of stable jockey Danny Tudhope and it is easy to see why. Terrifically consistent, his form works out even better when you filter for his York runs, being 1233214. Won here in June off 93, and his 4th off 99 here at the big August meeting was in the strongest course and distance handicap of the year just behind last weekend’s handicap winner Kynren. Goes on any ground, has a fair middle draw, and this is the kind of class of race that he wins. Huge chance.

Rhythmic Intent, (1610 Newmarket), 8/1: only just failed on handicap debut on soft, and after a few efforts on firm, delivered in a handy Newbury maiden back on a soft surface. Despite the quicker ground, he looked a shade unlucky trying to pull off the last to first tactics at Ascot last time. This is a massively competitive race, and his wide draw is hard to fathom until the race takes shape, but with cut back in the ground he is worth chancing to deliver on that Ascot promise.

Moss Gill, (1620 York), 9/2: local trainer James Bethell loves to win here and looks to have a big chance with this sprinting 3yo. Ran well in a strong Newmarket handicap before splitting the very useful Que Amoro and Roulston Scar here in August. Only 2lbs up for that and now leaves 3yo company to try his hand against more exposed older rivals. Should be hard to beat.

Hesslewood, (1730 York), 11/1: trainer James Bethell may have another interesting one in this lightly raced 3yo. He won on seasonal debut at both 2yo and 3yo seasons, and it looks likely that the 3 month gap since his last run could be ideal in freshening him up once again. Was running well off this kind of mark when last seen with a career best last time at Haydock when there was a little cut in the ground as there is today. Could go very well.
