The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Bardo Contiguo, (1430 Brighton), 1pt win, 2/1:
He did really well to overcome inexperience and a tricky run to win a very competitive Ayr handicap on recent handicap debut. A rise of just 3lbs looks ridiculously generous. Not only does the form merit at least double that, but as that was just his 4th run he can be expected to improve further. His breeding suggests this softer ground could be an additional favourable factor.
Firenze Rosa, (1325 Brighton), 5/2: has been in great form in recent weeks and after stepping down in class from excellent Goodwood runs, she has prospered with a 2nd at Bath, then a good win here, and then 2nd again at Bath in a better race yesterday. This looks winnable off just 55, and provided she turns out again so quickly then it should be close to a formality.
Hedging (1610 Brighton), 5/2: last three career wins have been here and sprang a 16/1 shock here last week when dominating a big field. Made the classic Brighton soft ground move to grab the stand side rail then and wasn’t for catching. Has a high draw here and is well placed to pull off the same tactical move.
Major Pusey, (1640 Brighton), 6/1: has been on the slide this season dropping over a stone in the weights before sparking back with a good second here last week. Will like this soft ground and could be on a winning mark now. We love to multiply a common risk, so the fact he was second to another of today’s picks Firenze Rosa allows us the chance to land multiplied odds for that single form-line standing up, which must be value.
