European Golf: Sam’s the man…

The European Tour heads to the Iberian Peninsula this week, with the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course hosting the Portugal Masters.

The course is fairly straightforward, with an average winning score of 20 under suggesting birdies are the order of the day.

Defending champion is Tom Lewis, and he represents the type of player we are looking for – long off the tee with a nice putting touch. One player we have been keeping an eye on that fits the bill is Sam Horsfield. The young Englishman has plenty of ability and we think this is the sort of event which could suit for his first Tour victory after finishing 14th last week in Paris on a course that wouldn’t have suited.

Our each selection is Ricardo Gouveia. The Portuguese player is likely to feel at home on this course, and he performed very well last year – finishing joint seventh. He’s a triple digit price, and we’ll have some of that.

Recommendations:

Horsfield to win, 1 pt, at 28/1, widely available

Gouveia 0.5 pts each way at 100/1, 1/5 the odds for the first seven places, SkyBet
