Saturday Yankee: Never again…

A good start to our Cheltenham campaign when yesterday’s nap Champagne Well (5/2 early, 13/8 SP) held on grimly in the opening race of the course’s 2019/20 season. We’re back there for more of the same we hope today…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:   Neverbeen To Paris, (1545 Cheltenham), 2pts win, 9/1

Made his debut for our friend Harry Whittington recently at Stratford.  Looked on a good mark and probably should have won there but for trying an ambitious inside route that closed up.  This longer trip should be perfect and although he isn’t a big galloping type, he is a hardy little battler with a touch of class and this mark looks very appealing.  The booking of Bryony Frost is almost unheard of for this yard but makes great sense as she can do the weight and knows the horse well.  We napped Theclockisticking in this race last year and he again looks the main danger.

Cogry, (1400 Cheltenham), 15/2:  a Cheltenham veteran nowadays and an alumni of this event.  Won it in 2017, and a good second last year and comes back just a couple of pounds higher.  The stable is in its usual good early season form and this guy won’t mind it soft.  May be vulnerable to an improver, but it’s not obvious any of those have made the field and he has rock solid credentials amongst the been-there-done-it contingent.

Baladiya,  (1540 Leopardstown), 7/1: looked a promising filly when following a maiden win here with a smooth handicap debut success at Curragh.  Has lost her way a bit in two runs since, but they were sharper tests on quicker ground.  Back with a bit of cut underfoot she can rediscover that precious form.

Inscribe, (1650 Leopardstown), 10/1:  the key form here is a Listowel handicap won well by Pearl Warrior.  The subsequent win of runner-up Halimi makes a reversal of form unlikely at the weights, but that opens up the prospects of 4th placed Inscribe.  He was never closer than at the finish, gets a handy 8lb weight pull in the two in front, and has good value claims of passing then granted a decend gallop in the race.
