There are a few Premier League matches scheduled this afternoon, but the highlight is Tottenham’s visit time Anfield to take on the league leaders Liverpool.
The Reds were disappointing last weekend, scraping a draw at Old Trafford, but rebounded midweek with a comprehensive win in the Champions League. They have a good record against Spurs, losing only one of their last 15 clashes in all competitions. They are on a club record run of 11 successive home wins in the league and are undefeated in their last 44. They will feel confident of winning this game.
Spurs, by contrast, are on a tricky run. They have won only three of their past 12 league games, keeping just one clean sheet. That said, they were also impressive midweek in putting five past Red Star Belgrade.
Liverpool’s Mo Salah recently had a break through injury, but looked sharp midweek. He has scored six in his last eight games against Spurs in all competitions, and we’ll take him to score twice today.
The early game sees Wolves travel further north to take on Newcastle at St. James’ Park.
The visitors have just struck a solid vein of form, being unbeaten in their last four league games and won in the Europa League midweek. However, they played in Bratislava on Thursday, and could be feeling jet lagged with this early start.
Newcastle have had a tricky start to the season, and are struggling for goals. However, they beat Manchester United last time out at home and this should boost their confidence.
Wolves are favourites but we’re reluctant to back them given the lack of time to recover. We’ll take the game to end in a draw. For those who fancy a bit more of a price, try a goalless stalemate.
