Breeders Cup: Friday night yankee….

The Friday Night Yankee

Alligator Alley, (2012 Santa Anita), 12/1:  A bit of a rogue with two ways of running.  Was at his best when overcoming a terrible start to win at York but lost his race last time when upset in the stalls.  Tries blinkers here which is an interesting call.  Will need to stay composed in this jamboree, but he’s a good double figure price for a horse with bags of talent when things fall his way.

Our Country, (2052 Santa Anita), 20/1:  Favourite Arizona has a tricky enough wide draw to deal with.  Our Country gets the inside berth and looked useful before two slightly unfortunate defeats.  Doesn’t have much to find with the fancied Strutter and Andesite, and from this good draw he could cause an upset.

Daahyeh,  (2212 Santa Anita), 4/1:  consistent filly at the top table in Europe this season and has the 6f speed needed to be effective on this sharp turning mile.  Won well at 7f last time so should be able to last this trip.  Looks nicely drawn in stall 5 and could be too fast for main rival Albigna.

Scabbard,  (2303 Santa Anita), 6/1:  to see the two leading lights here, Dennis’ Moment and Eight Rings with two domineering wins each is no surprise – an unseated rider each feels more at home at Sandown than Santa Anita.  They command the market but tactically may end up in a dogfight for the lead.  That could open things up for Scabbard who was not far behind Dennis last time and could reverse the form in what may be a tactically different race.
