It’s back to the Champions League tonight, with both Liverpool and Chelsea having home games.
The Reds have their return fixture with Genk, having beaten the Belgian side 4-1 last month, and will be expected to win comfortably at Anfield. This is reflected in the odds for Liverpool’s goalscorers.
That said, with Liverpool facing Manchester City on the weekend, the management could use this game to rest some of their big hitters.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been making steady progress from injury and played in the first of these fixtures, scoring early. He has been asked by his manager to shoot more, and we’ll take a punt that he scores from outside the area.
Chelsea have a tougher looking game, taking on Ajax. The Dutch side was the surprise package of last season, losing in the semifinals to Spurs. But they have subsequently lost some key players, and went down 1-0 at home to the Blues in the first fixture.
This is the crucial game in Group H, with the winner likely to top the group. And as impressive as Chelsea have been away from home this season, they have dropped points at Stamford Bridge – including this competition already this season.
Chelsea are the favourites, but we don’t think this will be an easy game for them. Given the odds we prefer taking a punt on an Ajax goalscorer.
Dusan Tadic has been at the heart of most that’s good with Ajax, scoring three of their last seven away goals in the Champions League. We’ll take a punt he nets again tonight.
Recommendations:
Liverpool/Genk: Oxlade-Chamberlain to score from outside the area, 1 pt, at 8/1, William Hill
Chelsea/Ajax: Tadic to score, 1 pt, at 5/2, Unibet
