Saturday Yankee: Rock steady…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Rock de Baune (1340 Naas), 1pt win,  4/1:

Had a fair season last year with a good run in the always competitive Leopardstown Pertemps qualifier.  Still lightly raced for the excellent John Kiely, he comes here fit and in form after four excellent recent flat runs.

Champagne Mystery, (1220 Aintree), 5/2: well bred Shantou gelding who has been a perennial runner up in bumpers and hurdles. Now gets his chasing debut, he is built for this and a mark of 129 earned hurdling may be left behind faced with fences.  Nico De Boinville picks him to ride and he should get the win.

Surin (12.30 Naas) 7/2:  an intriguing battle of some of last season’s better juveniles.  Tiger Tap Tap is favourite even though he was beaten both times he met Gardens Of Babylon.  That might be an expectation of progress from Tiger or the evident recent poor form of Babylon.  But that opens things up for Surin who narrowly lost twice to Babylon last season but has proven herself in good form this season and so represents what an in form Babylon would be capable of.

White Moon, (1535 Wincanton), 7/2:  a decent early season handicap chase won for the last two runs by Present Man.  He’d have a chance again, but may struggle to contain White Moon, who ran with exuberant good form here recently and had the race in the bag when tipping up at the last.  Provided he retains that enthusiasm, the 5lb rise shouldn’t stop him in his bid for compensation.
