Sunday Yankee: Ambition to be rewarded…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Bay Ambition, (1205 Navan), 1pt win,  9/2:

The yard of Gavin Cromwell continues in great form after a breakthrough season last year, and this mare battled hard to a maiden win in just her fourth start.  She beat two from the powerful Elliott yard then, with the rest well beaten, and an opening handicap mark of 110 looks very generous.

Wild Desire (1445 Navan), 10/1:  A competitive handicap in which JP McManus is mob handed.  He should go close although with which one is a puzzle. That said, Wild Desire was a very way winner last time.  That came out of the blue and she is effectively 12lbs higher here, but these mares sometimes click into form and can leave their past behind.  She gets in on a low weight and could lead them a merry dance in the mud.

Totterdown, (1455 Sandown), 6/4:  made all and thrashed his opponents in this race last season off 129.  Now returns off just 130 and has switched to the bang in form stable of Fergal O’Brien.  Looks likely to go from the front again and looks set to repeat last year’s heroics.

Loose Chips, (1530 Sandown), 8/1:  one of the most veteran of this field of veterans but a lover of Sandown in the mud.  Won this race last year with a fine front-running display and returns 7lbs lower having disappointed thereafter.  Had a run at Carlisle recently in the same race he used to prep for last year, and this looks likely to be the main target.  Can defy age and odds, especially if allowed loose on the pace.
