Wednesday Yankee: Remember De Name….

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:   De Name Evades Me, (1435 Exeter), 1pt win, 11/4:

This is a cracking little handicap chase for novices, but it could be dominated by Fergal O’Brien’s runner.  The yard continue in flying form and this one’s chasing debut when beaten 7l at Chepstow was excellent.  The two in front were good ones, both rated in the low 140s with scope to progress, so a mark for De Name of just 127 looks about 8-10lbs well in.  That should be enough to win a good race like this.

Eclair Surf, (1325 Exeter), 9/4:  was a fairly expensive recruit from Irish point to points and makes his stable debut for a strong yard in a race they have historically used for their better novice hurdlers.  Has form on heavy and looks to have the class edge in his rivals.

Western Climate, (1400 Exeter), 7/1:  won here on heavy over this trip in Jan 18 for his previous stable off 125.  It was mostly disastrous since hence the slide to 108, but he moved in the off season to Henry Oliver and was running a good race at Stratford over a shorter trip until a last fence fall.  If he can come on for that first run since March, then these conditions should suit better than for some of the more fancied runners here.

The Mighty Don, (1505 Exeter), 2/1:  much the best of these over hurdles where he’d be rated 12lbs clear and was an admirable 8th in the Stayers Hurdle. Made a decent chasing debut here over just 2m, and despite the potential of both Espirit Du Large and Coolanly, it’s hard to see why Don wouldn’t be odds-on for this.
