There are a couple more Premier League games to enjoy this evening, starting with Newcastle traveling to Sheffield United.
The Blades have been one of the surprises this season immediately after promotion, unbeaten in seven league games and nestled neatly in the top half of the table. Defensively they have been solid and are now starting to score for fun at home, six in their last two games at Bramall Lane.
New manager Steve Bruce has also exceeded expectations at Newcastle, with his side lying in 14th after being tipped to struggle in the close season. The Geordies have a good record against today’s opponents over time, but we fancy the home team tonight.
Sheffield striker Lys Mousset has started to blossom with the Blades, scoring five in 11 appearances since joining from Bournemouth. However, this includes scoring in his last two games, and we’ll take him to net again with the opener.
The late game sees Arsenal hosting Brighton at the Emirates. This looks a good game for Freddie Ljungberg to make his home debut as interim manager as Brighton have been poor in their travels – losing four of their last five away games (and drawing the other 0-0 at Newcastle).
That side Arsenal’s defensive frailties we’re still there for all to see last weekend in the 2-2 draw with Norwich. Additionally, Brighton were a little unlucky to leave Anfield with nothing on Saturday, showing much more attacking intent.
We think Arsenal will win this game, but aren’t confident enough to risk money on this belief. That said, we think there could be a physical edge to the game. The Arsenal players will want to show the new manager (and the crowd) that they care, while Brighton will feel they can disrupt the home team by putting their feet in.
Arsenal have accumulated the most yellows in the Premier League this season but it’s Lewis Dunk who we’re going to put our cash on receiving a booking. He has five bookings so far and now has to face a number of quick, tricky forwards.
Recommendations:
Sheffield United/Newcastle: Mousset to score first, 1 pt, at 4/1, William Hill
Arsenal/Brighton: Dunk to be booked, 1 pt, at 3/1, SkyBet
