The Presidents Cup starts tonight, with the International team trying to win back the trophy from the Americans at the prestigious Royal Melbourne course.
We think the Australian players in the International could well have an advantage knowing the course, but still believe the US side will triumph given the disparity in world rankings between the two sides. After all the US have only lost one of the 12 renewals of this competition, winning the last seven.
But, with this in mind, we’re going to side with Adam Scott to be the highest scoring International player. He is one of the highest ranked in his team, a major winner, knows the course and the draw for tonight’s opening four balls pits him against one of the weakest US teams (on paper).
As far as the Americans are concerned, we’re going to take Justin Thomas to be top scorer. He is the highest ranked of all the players in the competition, he’s likely to play all the sessions and he’s partnered with Tiger first time out. He top scored for the US in last year’s Ryder Cup, suggesting he thrives under this sort of pressure, and he looks a good thing.
Recommendations:
Scott to be top points scorer for International team, 1 pt, at 5/1, bet365
Thomas to be top points scorer for US team, 1 pt, at 9/2, SkyBet
