NAP OF THE DAY: Jaytrack Parkhomes, (1435 Taunton), 1pt win, 7/1:
When a jockey is riding with great confidence it often seems to transmit to the horse. Robbie Power has been in supreme form for the Tizzard yard this year and he gets the leg up on this young handicapper. This horse travels well but hasn’t always found what’s needed to win. He needs a ride of some finesse, and he has just the man for the job with Robbie on board for the first time.
Layerthorpe, (1540 Taunton), 4/1: Favourite Viking Ruby has form that is starting to look like a post code and may not be reliable at that short price. Layerthorpe is the opposite, having managed two narrow recent wins from the front. He has the conditional jockey find of the season in Ben Jones, and hasn’t been unduly punished for those narrow wins, he can hold them off again.
Maire Banrigh, (1320 Warwick), 5/4: returned from a year off with an easy Stratford win and then bettered that when beating the very useful Thomas Darby here last time. Escapes unpenalised and even though there are some decent mares in this, she should be a cut above.
Canny Style, (1415 Newcastle), 7/1: a modest mare but after a long sequence of below par efforts her hurdling return last time at Market Rasen was much more like it. She finished 5th, and the 4th and 3rd that day have won since. This looks a lesser event and a 3lb drop in the weights looks overly generous.
