NAP OF THE DAY: Top Moon, (1230 Navan), 1pt win, 3/1:
Joseph O’Brien’s youngster seems to be improving fast, with the step up to this trip yielding dividends when surging clear at Cork last time. He has been shunted up 7lbs for that effort, but he could easily be improving more quickly than the assessor can handle.
Diamond Turf, (1330 Navan), 5/2: a meeting here between three promising novices who all impressed on their opening chasing efforts. La Tektor and An Fraoch Mor will both win races soon, but they made be left to wait by the very promising Diamond Turf whose effort at Fairyhouse was the pick of the three, both on individual performance and on form.
Minella Till Dawn, (1435 Navan), 5/2: ended 18 months off the course with a conspicuously promising effort in a good race at Punchestown. He finished just ahead of Killer Miller there who won a big race afterwards at Fairyhouse. The bounce factor is a danger, but it’s more likely he can improve, which will make him hard to beat.
Uhtred, (1510 Navan), 6/4: potentially a match here with local legend Elliott’s Pencilfulloflead an obviously strong contender. But the Joseph O’Brien trained Uhtred may be too hot to handle. He won a strong Fairyhouse bumper last year and was a very good runner up to the useful Front View over hurdles last time. Interesting that he steps back to bumpers and he can make use of his 3lb weight claim.
