Premier League: Trust Harry…

Tottenham start the Boxing Day program with a home game against Brighton.

The hosts had a poor day at the office on Sunday, being thoroughly outplayed by Chelsea. Manager Jose Mourinho is likely to want a response, and Brighton could be the fall guys as a result.

Harry Kane has a tremendous record on this particular festive day, scoring seven goals in four games, and we’ll take him to open the scoring today.

The early evening game sees Manchester United host Newcastle at Old Trafford.

The home team really struggled last time out against Watford, and have tended to underperform against teams which sit back, denying them the chance to counterattack. What they require is more creativity in midfield – step forward Paul Pogba.

The French star has been out for ages with injury, but after a substitute appearance on the weekend he is likely to start. He has a dominant personality that can boss a game, and will be fresh. We’ll take him to be named man of the match.

The late game could be a classic – Leicester (lying in second) taking on the league leader Liverpool at home.

The Foxes have been in terrific form until running into a highly motivated Manchester City team last time out. They will be very keen to be unleashed again, particularly as they probably think they are the fresher team given Liverpool’s traveling this week.

This match will be a real test of Liverpool’s title ambitions. Victory here and the lead swells to very healthy levels, and they would still have a game in hand!

We’re unsure how this game will play out. We fancy Liverpool in ordinary circumstances but are unsure over their freshness. Consequently we expect a tight game and will look to Virgil van Dijk to make his mark. If he can marshal Jamie Vardy out of the match then he could well be named man of the match.

Recommendations:

Tottenham/Brighton: Kane to score first, 1 pt, at 7/2, William Hill

Manchester United/Newcastle: Pogba to be man of the match, 1 pt, at 11/2, William Hill

Leicester/Liverpool: Van Dijk to win man of the match, 1 pt, at 12/1, William Hill
