The NFL concludes its regular season this weekend with a series of divisional matches to decide the playoff pairings. Thus there are some teams who are highly incentivised to perform and others who have basically already run their races.
First up the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Los Angeles Chargers needing a win to keep the pressure on the Patriots for the number two seeding in the AFC. Patrick Mahomes has run in two touchdowns in the last three weeks. The Chiefs should win comfortably and another rushing TD from the quarterback will keep future defences guessing.
The New England Patriots host the Miami Dolphins needing a win to ensure No. 2 seeding and a bye. They should achieve that with ease, and coach Belichick will be keen to expand the options for Tom Brady and his stuttering offence. Young tight end Matt LaCosse registered his first touchdown last week, and he looks a big price at 10/1 to repeat the trick and cement a new threat for playoff opponents to consider.
The Green Bay Packers have the opportunity to claim the top seed in the NFC should they beat the Detroit Lions (and the 49ers lose). For a long time they have been largely dependent on quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but this season another Aaron (Jones) has been key. The running back has scored five of his team’s last seven TDs, and we’ll take him to score first today.
Finally the New Orleans Saints need to beat the Carolina Panthers for any chance of a top two seeding in the NFC. Again quarterback Drew Brees has traditionally been the key player for the Saints, but injury and age has boosted the prominence of running back Alvin Kamara. He scored two TDs last time out, and we’ll take a chance on him scoring the opener today.
Additionally, for those of a less adventurous mindset, SkyBet has put together a tasty treble of touchdown scorers. Ezekiel Elliott (Dallas Cowboys), Saquon Barkley (New York Giants) and Derrick Henry (Tennessee Titans) are all top class running backs, and we’ll take the 4/1 on offer that they all score touchdowns.
Recommendations:
Jones (GB), Kamara (NO) to score first touchdowns and Mahomes (KC), LaCosse (NE) to score anytime touchdowns as a Yankee, SkyBet
Elliott, Barkley and Henry to all score touchdowns, 1 pt, at 4/1, SkyBet
