No winning nap-trick yesterday as drying ground scuppered our no 1 pick, but a non runner and winners at 7/2 and 3/1 on the other legs made for more than 4 times total money returned on the Yankee, keeping up the cracking end to the year…
The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: The Con Man, (1435 Haydock), 1pt win, 11/4:
A hugely unexposed hurdler with a point win and a good novice win, and then a year off before a good second here chasing home a potentially classy mare. A mark of 123 is a very tempting start, and it would be no surprise if that were at least 10lbs too lenient.
Donnie Brasco, (1225 Haydock), 13/2: an unexposed novice making his handicap debut. He won a point and was a great third in a possibly decent Chepstow novice before returning there for another respectable third. A mark of 114 looks more than fair and the 3lb claim of the useful Chester Williams only helps.
Sizing Cusimano, (1350 Taunton), 13/2: very inconsistent as a hurdler last year when it was a case of win or bust. Looks like he could make a better chaser and although 6th at Newbury last time, that may just have been a deep little race with form worth following. This doesn’t look such a hot event and he can go well under Jonjo Jnr.
Lord Du Mesnil, (1400 Haydock), 3/1: absolutely bolted up in a good race here last week and has been hiked up 10lbs for that. This looks an easier race and despite the extra burden he must have a huge chance at a chase course which can suit some horses supremely well.
