The third round of the FA Cup starts today, but we’re very wary of betting on the early stages of this competition. We never know which of the top sides are taking the tournament seriously and which will be putting out reserves.
The game that we are going to concentrate on today is the early evening clash between Wolves and Manchester United.
Both teams lie in the upper half of the table but their ambitions are surely very different. Wolves have done well to get to seventh while still progressing to the knockout stages of the Europa League. Changes to their first team look likely as a smallish squad is rotated.
United too are suffering from injurite and illness but fifth in the league is good enough for a club of this stature. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows a good cup run could keep the fans onside and provide time to implement his changes. He’s likely to pick a pretty strong side.
With this in mind we’re edging towards United to win this one. Our bet may sound repetitive but we still see value – Harry Maguire to score a header. The England central defender had another great chance against Arsenal, heading straight at the goalkeeper. Surely it’s just a matter of time.
