There are a number of FA Cup third round ties scheduled for today, but we’ll concentrate on the Merseyside derby at Anfield.
At the start of the season we saw an interview with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp saying that the club’s hierarchy had asked him to concentrate on the Premier League and Europe, implying the domestic cups were an afterthought.
Given the injuries his team are suffering, and this opportunity to rest first team stars after the busy Christmas period, it’s likely Klopp will play quite a few youngsters.
Everton, by contrast, will see this as a great opportunity to end a multi-year dismal run versus their neighbours. The Toffees last beat Liverpool in 2010. New manager Carlo Ancelotti seems to have instilled a new confidence in his side, and they will be looking forward to going to Anfield with a chance.
Tom Davies has impressed in the Everton midfield, and could have the opportunity to press further forward today. He’s a healthy price to score, and we’ll take a punt.
Recommendation:
Davies to score anytime, 1 pt, at 10/1, Paddy Power
