NAP OF THE DAY: Wasntexpectingthat, (1400 Newcastle), 1pt win, 9/4:
The switch to all weather, and this course in particular, has been transformational with two smooth wins. Last time he overcame substantial trouble in running, and the 6lb rise probably underestimates his margin of superiority. The winning run looks likely to continue here.
Hooflepuff, (1300 Newcastle), 4/1: favourite Greengage has a bit to prove at this track and trip – not so Sulafaat and Hooflepuff. Sulafaat was a half length ahead in a tight finish here last month, but the 7lb pull can see Hooflepuff reverse the form. He probably hit the front a bit too early there and jockey Ben Robinson will be holding onto him longer today.
Good Effort, (1430 Newcastle), 5/2: crushed his rivals on the all weather in France last time, and was a good second on a strong handicap here the time before. Gets a few pounds turnaround with Watchable which should see the for turnaround, and although a couple of other rivals are rated 2 and 4lbs superior, that can be overcome by the blistering in form sprinter and his proven liking for these conditions.
Soldier’s Minute, (1845 Kempton), 2/1: has a busy year in 2019 cropping up on this blog a few times. Looks to have been found a good winning chance here, marginally the highest rated horse in the field, but crucially that rating was achieved over this course and distance. Everything looks set for a win.
