A welcome return to winning ways as yesterday’s nap, Rocky’s Silver (7/2) prevailed at Punchestown under the incomparable Derek O’Connor. A win for blog regular Big River (c4/1) ensured some profits from the Yankee too.

NAP OF THE DAY: Tokyo Getaway, (1525 Punchestown), 1pt win, 5/2:
The 1-2 from a race here in November Howaya Aoife and Tokyo Getaway look the ones to concentrate on with that race becoming form-book gold. It was close there and Aoife was tempting at the odds, but the booking of the flying Conor McNamara and his 5lb weight claim can swing things for the consistent Tokyo Getaway.
Three Comets, (1245 Punchestown), 11/2: by a long way the best of these on the flat and was running at least as well as today’s favourite Oak Park before unseating at the second last here a few weeks ago. Sire Sea The Moon is having his first jumps runners as juveniles, with Triumph Hurdle Allmankind already suggesting his offspring could be ones to watch.
Sean Says, (1315 Punchestown), 25/1: always interesting to see juveniles thrown into older handicaps at this time of year receiving 14lbs of age allowance. Noble Joshua and Early Voice both fit the bill for shrewd yards, but the filly Sean Says has arguably better form in her last effort and yet is a multiple of their odds. Worth a dabble.
Key Commander, (1450 Punchestown), 9/2: hot favourite Marshalled came good on handicap debut after not being sighted in maidens. But that may have been a bit fortuitous and up in the weights he looks a short price. Key Commander’s maiden form is much better including a promising third at Limerick over Christmas. A useful 5lbs claim brings him effectively under 100 and that looks very appealing.
