Blog followers may want to consider a thank you card to Horse Racing Ireland, whose initiative in restaging Monday’s abandoned Punchestown meeting today resulted in a whopping 50/1 payout on our yankee.
Our Daily Yankee (“Wednesday Yankee: Deja Vu…) didn’t seem to be heading anywhere when our opening pick Three Comets ran in the maiden race like a horse being prepped for handicaps (ie slowly).
However, the first sign of a day to remember came when our pick Sean Says (14/1 early, 11/1 SP) landed the handicap hurdle under her weight for age allowance. (The greedy punter in us noted we got 25/1 on Monday pre-abandonment…never mind).
Things got very interesting when handicap debutant Key Commander (5/1) stormed clear later in the card to register an already juicy double.
All eyes then on the concluding leg and nap of the day Tokyo Getaway (7/2). A word for young Conor McNamara on board – he was a key reason for the selection, and his 5lb claim, his talent and a never say die ride made all the difference as the mare was well behind and never looked like winning until the constant push and shove from Conor got her up after the last.
All told, 3 from 4, and an approximately 50 times total stakes return for backers of the Yankee. That’ll do very nicely as we gather the stocks of ammunition for Cheltenham…..happy days
Stay tuned…
