A fantastic day at Punchestown yesterday with a 50/1 return on the yankee. It’s not really lightning weather, so we’ll have to settle for hoping drizzle can hit the same spot twice…
The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Subway Surf, (1455 Ludlow), 1pt win, 7/2:
Lightly raced mare who should improve for the step up to 3m. Has a little bit to find with Winter Getaway on Warwick form, but she should be fitter today, the extra distance can only help, and the ground looks an ideal test for her.
Woulduadamandeveit, (1435 Wincanton), 4/1: looked a decent prospect back in his bumper career but has been a big flop over hurdles. His rating has dropped accordingly and he showed more when 5th last time out. Has been given a decent break since then, the small Sue Gardner yard had a winner a few days ago, and he gets in here off the minimum weight
Midnight Callisto, (1445 Market Rasen), 9/1: great to have a listed mares bumper lighting up a Thursday at Market Rasen. It has even attracted an unrated Willie Mullins raider, but we think the value is in excusing Midnight Callisto’s Cheltenham flop last time. Plenty of horses don’t handle that track, maybe she just isn’t that good but she was favourite there after an easy debut win, and it’s worth risking she returns to form at this very different venue.
Pobbles Bay, (1540 Wincanton), 8/1: favourite Christmas In April won a marathon like this just 11 days ago and that’s a fast turnaround. Bottom weight Cyclop looks dangerous, but Pobbles Bay may have the class edge. A marathon winner and soft ground winner last year, he was given a Welsh National prep over hurdles but couldn’t handle the elevated grade there whilst out of the handicap. This massive class drop can only help and he could be too good for some of these plodders.
