NAP OF THE DAY: Highway Companion, (1320 Musselburgh), 1pt win, 9/2:
The race won here by Not The Chablis looks key with most of the leaders reopposing. Highway Companion looked the likely the winner the way he travelled that day but he couldn’t quite battle past the winner. A stronger pace looks likely which should suit and jockey Brian Hughes, in hot pursuit of the title, will have doubtless refined his tactical plan after that narrow defeat. Looks the value.
Alminar, (1310 Chepstow), 7/2: very lightly raced with his third in this race last year being just 3 runs ago. Won after that and was a fair third on his reappearance. Likes the track and crucially revels in the mud. Should have more improvement in him than his more exposed rivals.
The Mouse Doctor, (1500 Musselburgh), 5/2: lightly raced over hurdles but pretty experienced on the flat. Comes from the legendary Tony Martin yard and looked like a win was imminent when running a solid fourth in a big field handicap at Leopardstown’s Christmas meeting. Appears to be 10lbs higher here but 9 of those is just the Irish to UK calibration adjustment. Has a big winning chance.
Just A Thought, (1520 Chepstow), 9/4: strong mare who ran with credit here over 3m last time. May have a tough of class in this company, has Richard Johnson on board, and is sure to stay well over this shorter trip at a time when others may be running up the white flag.
