A fascinating Trials day and we’ll have festival eyes on Alaho at Fairyhouse, Santini at Cheltenham and of course Paisley Park. We love that trio but the bookies love them even more so they are unbackable at the odds with Paisley in particular facing more of a challenge than the odds suggest. We will look for value elsewhere amidst the great Saturday action…
The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Highway One O One, (1350 Cheltenham), 1pt win, 5/1:
A race to savour for festival form each year. Highway One O One ran very well in the novice event on this card last year and ran a mighty race in defeat in a good event at Kempton last time. He looked like he had them in trouble there until running out of fuel late in the 3m trip. This step back is ideal.
Bbold, (1220 Doncaster), 6/1: won and generally ran well on good ground for the Skeltons. Has moved to Richard Newland who does so well with recruits, and he has waited patiently for this better surface. Could have a touch of class against numerous but modest opponents.
Imperial Aura, (1315 Cheltenham), 5/2: promising young chaser whose 2nd here to the high quality Pym was a good effort. Is surely being targeted at the Close Bros at the festival and a win here off 136 should secure his place. Some of these are close enough to that race’s ratings limit of 145 to potentially prefer a place to a win.
Cobra De Mai, (1515 Doncaster), 11/1: better ground in a staying chase could turn over the formbook and Good Man Pat and Cobra De Mai are the two who leap off the page as likely huge improvers. Cobra was quietly impressive in mid division at Kempton and has dropped to a nice winning mark in time for the better surface. His jumping may hold up slightly better than Good Man Pat, but the reverse forecast is worth a look for the seriously ambitious !!
