Wednesday Yankee: Ard to beat…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Ardmayle, (1515 Leicester), 1pt win, 7/2:

Mixes chasing and hurdling these last few seasons, but a look at his lifetime wins shows the key ingredient is the ground with 2 wins on soft and 3 on heavy. The ground here will be severely testing and he ran well to the last fence at Newbury last time. Won very well over fences at Sandown last spring, and off a 4lb lower mark over hurdles he has to have a decent chance.

Lithic, (1545 Leicester), 4/1: we last picked him just after this blog started in March 2017 and it has taken nearly 3 years for us to forgive that awful run. We haven’t missed much as he is an infrequent winner and recent form of P3PU doesn’t augur well. But – he was at his best this time last year, and the Jonjo yard are showing all the hallmarks of their usual Spring surge. Looked likely to play at part at Market Rasen last time till hampered and unseating. This may just be his day.

Milan Of Crystal, (1615 Leicester), 11/1: a trappy little handicap hurdle to conclude but the tongue-tied 11yo mare may just be the answer. Has only has 2 runs for small new yard, but the latest of those was a proper eye-catcher. Ridden out the back she made rapid smooth progress through an 18 runner field and looked sure to go close until fading late on. This is an easier stamina test and a smaller field and she looks a juicy price.

Distant Applause, (1915 Kempton), 7/1: hasn’t seen much racing but that leaves him nicely unexposed. Went in the old notebook at Wolves last time when unseating his rider om the way to the start before suffering a troubled run after looking a possible winner. That was a big step forward and he can take another here.
