Friday Yankee: Storm warning…

A nice win for yesterday’s nap, Espoir De Romay (7/2), has us in good form ahead of the Leopardstown treats this weekend, just a mundane Friday to sit through first…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Beyondthestorm, (1320 Chepstow), 1pt win, 2/1:

Well bred and from a top yard and an Irish point winner, you’d expect him to be top drawer. Three maiden hurdle runs, admittedly in good company, have yielded precious little. That said, it looks a massive statement that Henderson has chosen to step him straight from maiden hurdles into handicap chases. It could be a masterstroke of handicapping or a sign of desperation. We’re prepared to pay to find out.

Getaway North, (1400 Catterick), 11/4: has been pretty consistent this season and ran well here last time. Has to reverse form with Elixer, but Getaway North made a crucial blunder at the last and couldn’t quite recover, closing to around a length. A 1lb pull in the weights is a marginal help, but a cleaner jumping performance should do the trick.

Matewan, (1615 Newcastle), 7/4: has been knocking on the door lately with 4 seconds in a row since his last win. Looked particularly unlucky to get overhauled late on but a rejuvenated class act at Wolves last time. Only up a pound for that and looks the solid option in this event.

Pilot Wings, (1620 Lingfield), 6/4; was an impressive winner at Wolves last week when always well positioned before striking home for a comfortable win under an able apprentice. Gets in here unpenalized and with Hollie Doyle doing the steering he looks set to follow up
