Tuesday Yankee: Sedging our bets…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:   Sabbathical, (1325 Sedgefield), 1pt win, 6/4:

This trainer and this horse are on a roll.  We are not.  Either he lifts us up and brings us on his wave, or we drown him.  The ease of his Leicester win last week suggests the fixed 7lb penalty is unlikely to stop him.  The pure physical burden of 12st 2lbs is more the issue, although that also demonstrates that he should be a class above this opposition.

Agent Westy, (1355 Sedgefield), 2/1:  a modest sort but has been in form over fences for his young claiming jockey.  Was disappointing reverting to hurdles at Ludlow but 3m on the soft there may have been too much.  This shorter trip should help and he’ll be getting plenty of weight from the un-penalised recent winner Haaseb.  It should be between the two but we’ll give Westy a final chance to exploit the apparently good hurdles mark.

Ouro Branco, (1500 Sedgefield), 2/1:  on one hand we don’t like the risk of the bounce factor at a relatively short price for a horse who won on return from a 2yr break.  But on the other hand a 6lb rise for an easy win looks generous, the 5 week gap is good for bounce elimination, and the form is golden with the next three home with combined subsequent form of 2121.

Two Hoots, (1635 Sedgefield), 9/2:  has won at this idiosyncratic track a couple of times and finally emerged from a slump when looking the likely winner last time at Market Rasen before being pipped late on.  Back at this favourite track and back in form, he is expected to go one better here particularly if ridden with a fraction more patience
