Sunday Yankee: Trouble with the Kerv…

Tough luck for big nap Ciel De Neige yesterday who ran a bit freely and with a hint of inexperience but still led until close to the line.  Losses may only be leant – watch this space for Cheltenham….

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Cheb De Kerviniou, (1625 Punchestown), 1pt win, 8/1:

Hopefully Storm Ciara will have relented enough to allow an intriguing day’s racing to go ahead.  Certainly conditions will be tough for this Punchestown marathon.  That may suit Gordon Elliot’s recent French import Cheb De Kerviniou.  He ran very well no on Irish debut but we rightfully opposed him with Rocky’s Silver when Cheb was a disappointing 3rd next time.  We are jumping horses, partly price driven, partly ground driven, and when we see the supremely talented Rachael Blackmore riding off just 10st in a marathon race, well that’s too good a chance to resist.

Master Tommytucker, (1355 Exeter), 7/4:   Not the safest jumper but top class when he gets it right.  Was running a decent race until tipping up in Grade 1 company last time and this step down in trip should help this free going sort.  Gets a handy weight allowance from classy main rival Reserve Tank, and looks like he’ll be hard to peg back.

Portrush Ted, (1500 Exeter), 3/1:  some interesting unexposed ones in this but Warren Greatrex’s runner looks the most interesting having the least to prove after a smooth comeback win at Ayr.  That was a good effort and he is entitled to improve further.  Palmers Hill is the danger but may not be cherry ripe after a long lay off.

Sporting John, (1605 Exeter), 5/4:  one of our favourite young horses in training and aiming for a hat trick of Exeter wins.  Steps up in class against the talented Master Debonair but gets a handy weight allowance and should be good enough if fulfilling expectations.
