The PGA Tour stays in California this week, with the Genesis Invitational taking place at the Riviera Country Club, near Los Angeles.
The field is stellar, with nine of the world’s top ten teeing off. The course is tree-lined and long, favouring the players that drive the ball well off the tee.
Rory McIlroy is the favourite today, and we are tempted with siding with him. But we feel his odds are a little short and there is likely to be a lot of attention on him as he has just returned to the number one slot in the world rankings.
Instead we’re going to side with Jon Rahm. This Spaniard loves playing in California – he has eight top 10 finishes in his last 10 starts in this state, including two wins – and he finished ninth here last year on his debut. We’ll take him to go eight better!
Our second selection is Collin Morikawa. It’s his debut in this event, and that probably counts against him, but he’s a talented player who does have experience around the course thanks to the 2017 US Amateur tournament. He may not win, be we think he can go close.
Recommendations:
Rahm to win, 1 pt, at 10/1, widely available
Morikawa 0.5 pts each way at 50/1, 1/5 the odds for the first seven places, BetFred
