Premier League: Man of the Match Mesut…

There are a couple more Premier League games scheduled for Sunday, providing they survive the havoc Storm Dennis is unleashing on the country.

First up is Aston Villa against Tottenham from Villa Park. It’s difficult to judge these two teams – Villa were outstanding in holding Liverpool until the last few minutes but do concede and lie just above the relegation zone, while Spurs have started to put something of a run together but have still only won twice away from home in the league all season.

We’ll leave the result alone and concentrate on individual players. Villa’s star man this season has been Jack Grealish. I’m tempted to suggest him as man of the match, but note instead that he could give Spurs fullback Serge Aurier something of a testing afternoon. The Ivorian is prone to a brain rush, and we’ll take him to see yellow.

The second game sees Arsenal host Newcastle at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta hasn’t had the easiest start to his reign as head coach of Arsenal, he’s won just one league game so far.

But he probably won’t have a better chance to add to his meagre tally than today – Newcastle have only won three away matches all season and are suffering from a bout of injuries.

We’ll side with the hosts and take a punt that Mesut Ozil shows his class by pulling all the strings from his midfield role. We’ll take him to be named man of the match.

Recommendations:

Aston Villa/Tottenham: Aurier to be booked, 1 pt, at 7/2, Unibet

Arsenal/Newcastle: Ozil to be named man of the match, 1 pt, at 7/1, William Hill
