Sunday Yankee: Could it be Magic?

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  NAP OF THE DAY:  Magic Of Light, (1330 Navan), 1pt win, 3/1:

All eyes on National hero Tiger Roll who won this last year.  He is a legend but he is 10 years old and returning from a 10 month layoff and an operation.  Just behind him at Aintree was Magic Of Light, a mare who also alternates chasing and hurdling.  She was getting 7lbs at Aintree, and gets 6lbs here, but crucially she is cherry ripe and bang in form.  She should get the verdict this time with the classy Penhill maybe a bigger danger than upgraded handicapper Kilfenora.

So Near So Farrh, (1455 Navan), 13/2:  a mare we know well from slogging around in mid-quality UK long distance flat handicaps.  Came good off a low mark on her first handicap hurdle last time.  This extra distance should suit her and she has been generously treated for that success.

Thunder Down Under, (1530 Navan), 4/1: top trainer Gordon Elliott considers Navan a home fixture.  His novice here has only had two handicap runs, a third at Leopardstown and a second at Fairyhouse and still has scope to improve.  With a fine 7lb claimer on board he looks to have a good racing weight and a solid chance.

Captain CJ, (1600 Navan), 4/1:  this novice has been in consistently good form this season. Finished ahead of First Approach here when chasing home top class Minella Indo.  That looks a match for the form of the more fancied Speak Easy and Minella Fair, and the Captain can finally deliver.
