NAP OF THE DAY: Dawson City, (1620 Exeter), 2pts win, 9/2:
Not many horses can handle a marathon trip in the mud around this course, but we know Dawson City can as he aims for a hat trick of wins in the event. Back on the same winning mark as last year and with a timely show of form last time out, this is his Cheltenham and he will have been trained with this in mind for the last 12 months.
Springfield Fox, (1415 Exeter), 2/1: has been lumbered with an extra 10lbs after a wide margin Chepstow win last time. His jumping that day was outstanding, and that can carry him into better class races than this in time. Looks a good bet to follow up that win on the way to bigger tests in future.
Donnie Brasco, (1520 Exeter), 6/1: a decent little handicap and a conundrum for us having previously tipped the top four in the betting here this season. The betting doesn’t agree with us but it’s the unexposed Donnie Brasco that tops our list. He ran well at Haydock last time, jumping well for a novice, and there should be improvement to come.
Kilconney Bridge, (1550 Exeter), 15/8: a promising mare who followed a smooth bumper win with a hurdles defeat at Catterick before sauntering to an easy win here. These conditions look likely to play to her strength and she looks capable of much better than her opening mark of just 114.
