The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Black Corton, (1535 Kempton), 1pt win, 6/1:
A classy and honest top weight who arguably has few secrets from the handicapper. That should make it hard to win a big handicap, but this isn’t the strongest race, and he has Grade 1 winning form at this track. With the ground moving in his favour he could just outclass these
Midnightreferendum, (1240 Kempton), 11/1: an interesting race with some fragile market leaders. Alan King always seems to get his team into top gear around this time of year and his Midnightreferendum is worth a punt. She showed more last time in a race that is working out well at Cheltenham and she comes here fresh and with conditions likely to favour.
Commanche Red, (1315 Kempton), 9/4: always looked talented but raised his game appreciably when an easy winner of a good handicap here last time. That form looks outstanding now and it’s worth trusting he can raise his game again in this quality contest.
Hugo ‘N Taz, (1445 Newcastle), 6/1: The Eider Chase is always run in ground suitable for ducks and invariably is the biggest slog of the season. We like a low weight and David Pipe has had time to improve his ex-Irish import Hugo ‘N Taz. He was a smooth winner of a regional national over Christmas and comes here the least exposed.
