NAP OF THE DAY: An Fraoch Mor, (1440 Naas), 1pt win, 11/2:
A good quality novice handicap and perfectly pitched ratings wise for Irish novices who may want to target the novice handicap at Cheltenham. All of these probably need a 7lb rise to get in there, so its a case of winner gets in. An Fraoch Mor holds the Cheltenham entry and needs the rise he’d get for winning here. His novice form is excellent and he comes from a shrewd stable who will have planned this carefully, he is a confident pick to go well.
Castlegrace Paddy, (1410 Naas), 6/1: was an easy winner of a grade 2 chase over a year ago since which time has toiled in a succession of Grade 1 events. Now steps down to Grade 3 with conditions ideal.. Has around 7lbs to find with Hardline and Cadmium, but neither of those are particularly reliable and Paddy may just have enough to land a small surprise.
Pasley, (1540 Naas), 9/4: again a well pitched handicap. Allowing for a c6lb hurdles rating calibration these are all about 7lb off making the field for the Boodles at Cheltenham. Trainer Joseph O’Brien won that race last year and will be keen to add Pasley to his team, but he’ll need a good win here to do that. Fortunately he has the best form on offer and can land the spoils and earn his trip over.
Goodbye Someday, (1640 Naas), 4/1: really picked up his form once dropped into handicaps off an opening mark of 107 at Cork when a good second. Was only put up 2lbs for that and was well backed for a very competitive Leopardstown handicap over Christmas and bang in contention when unlucky to be carried out at one of the hurdles. Keeps the same mark here when it looked likely he could have contested that finish, that makes him potentially well in.
