All four placed at goods odds yesterday, which will have worked well for each way players. Knocking on the door for win purposes, hoping that door opens today….
The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Askann, (1440 Navan), 1pt win, 6/1:
His record since switching back to hurdles these last three runs is very strong. He won well at Down Royal and was staying on well in a decent Punchestown race before finishing well clear of the rest when just failing to catch Lee Valley Legacy at Fairyhouse. He is up just 3lbs for that, which looks a vast understatement after the winner’s 13l romp in a good Leopardstown handicap yesterday. Heavy ground can bring his proven stamina into play and his jockey’s 7lb claim is huge.
Hugo ‘N Taz, (1430 Exeter), 5/2: we had this guy lined up for the valuable Eider chase off a low weight only for that race to be abandonned. Gets s decent racing weight here too, and if he was to be a contender up at Newcastle then he must have a big chance in this lower grade.
Bingo D’Olivate, (1550 Newcastle), 5/4: came good in spectacular fashion at Carlisle recently , winning in a canter. Lost the race for weighing in 5lbs light, and even allowing for that and a 4lb rating raise, that still looks far short of what might be needed to stop him. Should have this race at his mercy.
Mick The Jiver, (1640 Navan), 3/1: this veterans race contains a lot of deadwood and not many of these would be able to compete at he highest level. Mick The Jiver was an easy winner here 3 runs ago and then ran a creditable 7th in the valuable Thyestes Chase. That is much better than the rest of these could achieve and he can benefit from the massive step back down in class.
