PGA Tour: Bryson is our beau…

Thursday sees the start of the Players Championship at the famed TPC Sawgrass course in Florida.

Defending champion and favourite for this week is the world no. 1 Rory McIlroy. He was excellent last year, leading the field with shits gained off the tee, and will be a threat again. However, we were disappointed by his collapse on Sunday after leading at Bay Hill, and we’ll pass.

Bryson DeChambeau finished fourth last weekend, clenching his fist on the final green after a birdie suggesting he is now pleased with his game after a period in the doldrums. He tees off early on Thursday, meaning he gets the course in pristine condition, and he has been starting well off late.

We like DeChambeau for this tournament, and we also think there’s a chance that he could start very strongly.

Our second selection is Matthew Fitzpatrick. The young Englishman also played well at Bay Hill last week, finishing tied 9th and was the only player to shoot a round in the 60s over the weekend. We think he’s running into form, and he’s a nice price for this tournament.

DeChambeau to win, 1 pt, at 20/1, widely available; and first round leader, 1 pt, at 35/1, bet365/William Hill

Fitzpatrick 0.5 pts each way at 50/1, 1/5 the odds for the first 10 places, Paddy Power
