The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Balkos, (1500 Clonmel), 1pt win, 10/3:
A fascinating handicap in which a big gamble on the so-far-useless Dreal Deal is eye-catching. On all form he can’t beat Shantou Sisu but money talks. Either way, both could struggle to hold off Balkos. He travelled like a well handicapped horse in a better race than this at Punchestown last time before seemingly failing to stay the extra half mile. This looks much more appropriate and he may have too much in hand for the plots here to be relevant.
Farmix, (1400 Clonmel), 6/4: one meeting a day offers the chance to start a yankee with a solid maiden choice, that has worked lately although we’ve lacked the follow up. Farmix is tasked with getting us running today and although he has some interesting opposition, his good second last time looks much better after the winner sauntered home in handicap company on the weekend. Should be a solid start.
Cosa Ban, (1430 Naas), 11/4: this is a genuinely poor race but the mare Cosa Ban suggested she could pick one of these up when falling last time at Gowran when looking likely to give a fair odds-on shot a close race. Nothing as good as that winner here and she can get compensation this time if staying on her feet.
The Trigger, (1630 Clonmel), 11/4: plenty of money for this 11yo, probably linked to the stable’s earlier gamble on Dreal Deal. That aside though he was a fine close 2nd two days ago at Downpatrick, notable for being just about the only horse all day to get involved having been held up. This track is a bit more suitable for those tactics and if he runs again so quickly then he could go one better.
