Thursday Yankee: Signs point to Zodiak…

A nice win for yesterday’s nap Gossiping (15/8), keeping the restart books in the black.

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Zodiakos, (1445 Newcastle), 1pt win, 3/1:

We always like a quickly turned out winner, and proven form and fitness is unique right now after the restart.  Zodiakos famously won the first race after the break here on Monday.  He gets a 4lb penalty and steps back to 7f, but he won really well, holding off a well fancied stablemate whilst 5l ahead of the third and the same again to the rest.  An uncomplicated front runner, he again gets a favourable high draw and can repeat having a decent record in the past when turned out so quickly.

Mia Mento, (1645 Newmarket), 5/2:  formerly Irish and has shown some real talent for her new yard with two placings at Newcastle.  Travelled well in her races but couldn’t quite get home, and this downhill track could really suit her and allow her to pounce on the late climb.

Zabeel Star, (1740 Newcastle), 7/2: a veteran who has stumbled into staying trips after a career at mid-distances.  Won a “jumpers” flat race here in Feb, showing 2m could suit and followed up with a close fifth here when staying on well late in the race.  Gets a small weight pull for finishing a length behind today’s favourite there, and looks a likely contender if getting going a fraction sooner this time.

Bear Force One, (1755 Newmarket), 11/4:  lightly raced and improving showing some style when making all and routing a field at Newbury.  Things didn’t quite go his way off this higher mark when runner-up on the all weather last time.  Steps back to 7f here and has a draw near the stands side rail which looks tailor-made for another front running free-wheeling display.
