The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Seinesational, (1520 Pontefract), 1pt win, 9/1:
These Ponty staying races are legendary. The market may have over-reacted to Oleg’s 6 runner Southwell romp and a 12lb hike looks prohibitive. Instead, Seinsational runs here off a mark only 2lbs higher than when a close second in a high quality glorious Goodwood handicap. That is much the best form on offer, he won on debut last year, and trainer Knight already has a restart winner. Probably needs to win this to earn a spot at Royal Ascot.
Ballylemon, (1550 Pontefract), 4/1:Won his maiden race when making all here over this distance on this going last Summer. After a good race at Chelmsford, his form tailed off in two subsequent runs at longer trips. Back fresh now could be crucial, back under the conditions he savoured last year, and crucially back at a time when the stable is red hot. His useful apprentice claims 3lbs and he looks to have a strong chance.
Marshal Dan, (1800 Kempton), 11/1: a tricky clash of two horses we picked last week. Gossiping was a winning nap and undoubtedly has more in hand than this 5lb penalty, that said he isn’t always the easiest ride. Marshal Dan was a well beaten second for us last week, but he had the rest of the field thrashed and was unlucky to meet such a well-in front runner. Looks the value here given the very short price for Gossiping, and with Cieren Fallon’s 3lb claim a gift.
Repetitio, (1930 Kempton), 9/1: was a revelation as a juvenile hurdler this season after a couple of quiet early flat runs in Ireland for Jim Bolger. Progressed until unable to compete at Cheltenham. Inherits his old flat rating here and is worth a gamble at these odds that he can bring some of that hurdling progress to a flat campaign.
