The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Eeh Bah Gum, (1540 Ayr), 1pt win, 6/1:
Ran up a sequence of wins as a 3yo but found last season harder, although ran a blinder in the Epsom Dash. Finished by July and was nearly a year off before a quiet return at Haydock recently. He needs the ground very fast – which it wasn’t at Haydock. He gets it here, will have blown away the cobwebs and is on an attractive mark. Probably needs a win if he wants to get back to Epsom for a revenge mission.
Zap (1315 Thirsk), 11/2: This time last year he was 10th in the Bunbury Cup and 5th in a big field at Glorious Goodwood off marks in the low 90s. His form tailed off a bit afterwards but there was plenty to like in a solid comeback 5th at Doncaster recently. A very generous drop of 2lbs got that leaves him down on 80, a lifetime low, and surely one that can see him back to winning ways in this company.
Club Wexford , (1720 Ayr), 7/2: has form at this course and distance on quick ground of 11117. Can’t take too much encouragement from a last of 11 on reappearance at Newcastle but the 1-2 there both won at Ascot and the third won a valuable Doncaster prize last week so he was probably out of his depth. Could dominate this smaller field under conditions we know he adores.
Whelan’s Way, (1830 Windsor), 4/1: had some excellent form when consistent throughout last year. Has dropped to an effective mark despite his reappearance 6th at Chelmsford bring fairly encouraging. Gets the gift that is the 3lb claim of Cieren Fallon and is nicely drawn. Looks sure to run a big race.
