The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Marshal Dan, (1810 Chepstow), 1pt win, 3/1:
Very consistent sort on all surfaces. Ran a cracker when looking up like a winner at Kempton on reappearance only to find the shrewdly ridden front runner too hard to pass. That horse was completing a hat-trick, the well beaten third has won since, and this 7f looks sure to suit the Marshal even better. Just 3lbs higher than when winning at Newbury last year, and Chepstow is shallow waters indeed for this useful sort.
Colony Queen (1545 Beverley), 4/1: consistent filly who loves to be produced late. That style has seen her win 4 of her last 7 races, but the narrow margins of victory means she escapes undue handicap punishment, and again has only 3lb extra here than when a good winner at Newcastle on reappearance. This track’s uphill finish can help the late finisher and she is full of confidence.
Zihaam (1615 Beverley), 4/1: an odd race this with many of these maybe needing the run after long breaks. Favourite Our Charlie Brown is definitely ready to win but a 50 race career has never seen him beyond a mile so this 10f is a big doubt. Likewise Traveller’s recent Redcar third may have been a bit flukey for a horse who’d been kept to the all weather for 2 years. Instead topweight Zihaam returns just a pound higher to the scene of his triumph here last June when last running in this low a class on turf. His course form of 12241544 suggests he can win here and he blew away the cobwebs in higher class last week.
Limelighter, (1940 Chepstow), 2/1: had a light 3yo flat campaign before some success as a juvenile hurdler last autumn. Came back from a long spell off with a runaway win at Windsor last week. Went off just 3/1 there suggesting he had been showing plenty in the build up. A 5lb penalty is highly unlikely to stop him here provided he can handle the quick reappearance.
