Friday Yankee: Going for Gold…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Broughtons Gold, (1300 Haydock), 1pt win, 5/2:

Won nicely when we tipped him at Newbury recently.  Whilst the form of those beaten hasn’t worked out too well, he travelled beautifully that day and was a cosy winner.  A 7lb rise is manageable, and the fact he was withdrawn from a race last week when the ground turned fast suggests his in form trainer expects the cut in the ground to be a plus.

Sir Plato (1420 Chepstow),  9/4: broke our hearts when downing the last leg of a Yankee for us last week, ruthlessly pulling 10l clear with a devastating front running effort.  This may be trickier but he is 9lbs well in on ratings and that should be a enough headroom for a repeat.

Makthecat, (1720 Hamilton), 7/1:  we may have gone too soon when tipping this gelding at Pontefract last time. That race was better than it looked and a close fifth was pretty respectable.  The second and third have both won since and the sixth Storm Ahead ran a cracker in defeat at Haydock making him more favoured today even though worse off with Makthecat.  Mak has yet to encounter soft ground, but his breeding by sire Makfi would suggest it should prompt improvement.

Le Chiffre, (1750 Hamilton),  6/4 : won really nicely on his return and his handicap debut at Beverley.  Won going away there and a rise of 8lbs probably underestimates his potential.  Gets to run under a 6lb penalty so officially 2lbs well in, but worth much more in our book.  By the sire Zoffany, he is likely to go on the soft ground, and he looks highly likely to repeat his win.
