The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Tom Collins, (1810 Newbury), 1pt win, 7/2:
The handicapper could hardly change this guy’s mark after finishing 4th at Doncaster last time, but that could be generous for a few reasons. Firstly he didn’t have much luck that day having been shuffled to the rear before making a long run to make a challenge. And secondly, although 4th you could hardly get closer as the distances were a nose, a nose and a short head, so he was effectively beaten a neck in total. With a clearer run he can go better, this course should suit, and the booking of champion Oisin Murphy is an added plus.
What A Business, (1235 Ripon), 10/1: was a busy 2yo and ran arguably his best race when winning his side of the race over this track only to end up 4th overall. Ran a curious race at Thirsk last week and although that form needs to be improved on, it did look like he had more to offer and the benefit of that run and the return to this track could make a big difference.
Sir Titan, (1740 Newbury), 14/1: definitely a risky pick as he has only his second run at 6f in his handicapping career. This may be a tune up for his beloved glorious Goodwood, but his rating has slipped enough that he could probably do with a win to get in to that meeting. Loves to front run, and looks likely to be the only pace-setter in this field. Made all to win on his only previous run for today’s jockey Fallon, and is worth risking at a big price.
Torolight, (2040 Newbury), 9/2: a pretty disappointing recruit over hurdles for the Henderson yard. Is a rare flat runner for that stable, and having looked in need of the run last time, she now gets Ryan Moore booked and looks to have a winning chance.
