NAP OF THE DAY: Strong Johnson, (1555 Navan) 1pt win, 11/4:
Was a winning nap for us in a hot race at the Curragh last time. He’s up another 7lbs, but although he won a three way photo on the nod, the others in that photo were both progressive types and they pulled well clear of the field. Obviously life is getting tougher but he should notch another nap win before the weight catches up.
Abstemious, (1225 York), 13/2: ran his best race in victory on these track in softening ground last year. Has been improving this year too with an excellent second on soft at Haydock last time. The rain has come in time to give him his surface here again and he prove hard to pass if ridden from the front.
Solo Saxophone, (1650 York), 2/1: was a stylish winner when we picked him at Haydock last time and although up 7lbs for that, he travelled very easily that day and was always going to be a clear winner. If anything this course could suit him even better and he should win again.
Firmament, (1720 York), 13/2: formerly consistent high class handicapper who has gotten more moody with age as when last at Ascot recently. His form at this track though is amazing, always in big handicaps he has compiled figures of 12332142. The softening ground helps him these days as does a softening handicap mark and he can edge out the useful Brian Epstein.
