NAP OF THE DAY: Elarqam, (1440 York), 1pt win, 9/4:
This beautifully bred 5yo was an easy winner of this race last year. His comeback second to Lord North was a fine effort with today’s main rival Telecaster held in third. We can forgive Elarqam’s effort at Ascot in ground softer than he would like and stretched to a 12f trip. Back to an ideal quick 10f he can again prove to be a cut above this company.
Donnelly’s Rainbow, (1330 York), 18/1: an old blog favourite trying his hand here at lofty York when normally seen at lower grade Scottish tracks. Should love the sharp 7f and the quick pace and should get the cover he loves. It’ll be a case if if he has enough class to compete here off bottom weight. But the class gap aside, everything else here points to a big run.
Big Lachie, (1625 York), 11/2: has been in fine form since back to turf, winning for this jockey tidily at Doncaster before a good never-nearer second at Bath when arguably unlucky. Always needs the breaks with his run style , but plenty of pace on here should both give him the cover he likes and spread the field to give jockey Hollie Doyle room and options to deploy his late charge.
Devil’s Angel, (1730 Doncaster), 4/1: has been in strong recent form especially since paired with jockey Megan Nicholls’ valuable weight claim. Won really well last time at Newcastle and can get cover here to tow him late into the race where his closing speed can see him home.
