PGA Tour: Tricky Rickie…

The PGA Tour heads south this week, with the TPC Southwind course in Tennessee hosting the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

Defending champion is Brooks Koepka, but such has been the drop off in form of the former world no. 1 that he’s now priced at 33/1. He’s starting to look interesting at that level, but we’ll leave alone this week.

The favourite for this event is Jon Rahm, who became the top ranked player in the world after winning at Muirfield Village last week. We’re reluctant to back him to win two in a row, especially at a short price.

We’ve also been burnt by both Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas recently, and are reluctant to get involved again.

With doubts about the head of the market, we’re going to delve a little further down the betting list for our selections.

Rickie Fowler has missed the cut in three of his last five tournaments, resulting in his odds drifting out to 50/1. However, his last 14 rounds have seen eight in the 60s. If he can get his short game, usually a strength, back up and running he could go close at a large price.

Our second selection is a favourite of ours, Sungjae Im. The Korean has had a bad restart, missing out of the top 50 in his last five starts. However, he has undeniable talent and had a week off to refresh the batteries. He’s now a price worth getting involved with.

Recommendations:

Fowler 0.5 pts each way at 50/1, 1/5 the odds for the first seven places, William Hill

Im 0.5 pts each way at 70/1, 1/5 the odds for the first seven places, William Hill
